Plasma pen

Plasma Pen Treatment

A Plasma Pen is a non-invasive cosmetic device designed for skin rejuvenation and tightening. Using the principle of plasma technology, the pen generates a controlled electrical discharge to create a tiny plasma arc that superficially heats the skin, causing it to contract and tighten.

Plasma pen skin tightening or fibroblasting is the latest non-surgical cosmetic procedure to help you with your wrinkles, loss of collagen, and sagging skin.  Aging causes your skin to thin, produce less collagen and lose elasticity.  These factors produce sagging and wrinkling of the skin especially around the eyes and mouth.

Plasma pen skin tightening, also known as fibroblasting, fibroblast skin treatment, or soft surgery, is a non-surgical procedure or skin tightening treatment that targets a wide variety of skin conditions including loss of elasticity, sagging and wrinkles that have been traditionally treated with dermal fillers or plastic surgery.

What is the Plasma Pen?

The Plasma Pen is an innovative device for non-invasive skin lifting, skin tightening and rejuvenation.  The plasma pen is used to treat wrinkles, sagging and dull skin. It is  FDA approved, CE approved for fibroblast therapy (a skin treatment that stimulates the production of collagen in the skin).

The plasma pen significantly tightens, lifts, resurfaces, and regenerates practically any area of the skin.

The plasma pen uses electrical energy to convert nitrogen into plasma energy and then rapidly transfers that plasma energy to the skin surface.  This results in a small disruption of the deeper skin or dermis where the majority of the skin’s fibroblasts lie.  The result is a marked contraction of the skin which tightens wrinkles.

The plasma pen causes stimulation of your skin’s fibroblasts and in turn the fibroblasts make more  collagen.  This results in strengthening of the skin’s dense connective tissues which in turn minimizes fine lines,  wrinkles and micro-furrows, as well as improving the elasticity, suppleness and hydration of our skin.

This is why the treatment is also known as fibroblasting.

Frequently asked questions

Depending on the condition of the area being treated and the desired results this can vary. One treatment may be enough for some, although more treatments can be carried out for greater results. Treatments must be a minimum of 6-8 weeks apart.

On the day of your treatment it’s recommended that you don’t wear make-up on the area being treated, take an antihistamine to reduce swelling and continue for 2 days following.

The area will be cleaned and a cooling cream/gel will be applied to reduce any discomfort.

When the treatment starts you may feel mild discomfort. Dark carbon crusts will appear. It’s important not to pick these crusts; they will naturally flake off within a few days. Swelling and redness may last for a few days.

Local anesthetic cream is applied for 30 minutes prior to treatment to minimize any discomfort. In some instances minor discomfort is noted. Following treatment, the area may feel hot in places with a mild burning sensation. This typically subsides a few hours post procedurally. The area may weep and bleed slightly. Because the plasma gas is focalized and controlled, there is no tissue damage to surrounding areas and it is completely safe to be administered to people with light and medium skin color.

Swelling may occur for a few days following the treatment(within 48 hours from the treatment until 72 hours).

Best results will be seen in 8 – 12 weeks.

The tiny carbon dots will shed naturally in 7- 10 days, depending on the individual’s healing rate. Swelling is noticeable in the first few days as well. To maximize the effects of your treatment it is advised to keep the crustations intact for the length of time before they dispel naturally. We ask that you keep the treated area clean, moisturized and protected with a broad spectrum sunscreen. We will send home a post procedure kit.

Allow 10-18 days of healing depending on your systemic healing pattern. Individual healing results may vary due to skin tone, type, or state of health.

Swelling is normal and can limit you to social exposure of the treated area. Dryness and flaky skin are normal post healing.

  • Tiny brown dots (carbondots) will appear immediately after treatment. These will fall off in about 7 days to reveal new skin underneath.
